دونوں پہلی دفعہ 1980 کی دہائی میں ملے تھے. اور شادی کے بندھن میں 27 سال تک رہے. ان سے ان کے تین بچے بھی ہیں۔ دونوں نے مل کر کئی رفاہی کام بھی کیے۔ انھوں نے لکھا کہ ہم نے ایک ایسے ادارے کی بنیاد بھی رکھی ہے۔ اس ادارے کا کام دنیا بھر کے لوگوں کو بہترین صحت مند زندگی گزارنے کے مواقع فراہم کرتا ہے۔ دونوں نے ملکر ایک فاونڈیشن کی بنیاد بھی رکھی جسکا نام بل اینڈ گیٹس فاونڈیشن ہے. دونوں نے لکھا کہ آئندہ بھی اس مقصد کے لیے ایک دوسرے کا ساتھ دیں گے۔ مگر مزید ازدواجی زندگی میں ایک دوسرے کے ساتھ نہیں رہ سکتے. اپنے پیغام کے آخر میں انہوں نے لکھا کہ ان کو اور ان کے خاندان کو اپنی نئی زندگی کے لیے وقت اور پرائیویسی درکار ہےاور اس کا احترام کیا جائے
